SAGE and the Austrian Academic Library Consortium (KEMÖ) have concluded a new Read and Publish agreement for the period from January 2023 to December 2025. Part of this agreement is the possibility to publish Open Access at no additional charge: Corresponding authors of the institutions participating in the consortium can publish Open Access in the hybrid journals participating in SAGE Choice of the journal packages to which their institution subscribes. In addition, an increasing discount is granted on publications in Gold Open Access journals over the term of the agreement.
The FHW (Fachhochschul-Studiengänge Betriebs- und Forschungseinrichtungen der Wiener Wirtschaft GmbH) is excluded from this agreement and remains with the previous model: Corresponding Authors of this institution can publish in the journals of the SAGE HSS Collection at significantly reduced Article Processing Charges (APC). A discount is also granted on publications in Gold Open Access journals.

Who is eligible?
Research and teaching staff employed by as well as students enrolled at a participating member institution in the role of 'corresponding author'. SAGE identifies eligible authors automatically through their affiliation, institutional email address, or Ringgold ID as part of the submission workflow.
Which article types are eligible?
Original research paper, review paper, brief communication, short report, and case report are eligible article types, among others.
What license options are available?
The default license is CC BY-NC; the license CC BY can be used in case of a funder mandate.
When do authors have to be affiliated with a participating member institution to be eligible for funding?
Authors must be affiliated with a participating member institution on the acceptance date.
What costs are covered by the agreement?
Article Processing Charges (APCs) in Hybrid OA journals as part of the agreement are fully covered by the agreement.
