The American Society for Microbiology (ASM) and the Austrian Academic Library Consortium (KEMÖ) have concluded a combined open access publication and subscription agreement since January 1st 2025. Corresponding authors affiliated with the institutions listed below have the possibility to publish Open Access in the ASM journals that are included in the licensed journal package without additional costs for APCs. ASM does charge Page Charges and Supplemental Material Fees for Open Access publications. Paying eligible authors affiliated with a licensee are entitled to a 25 % discount on Page Charges and Supplemental Material Fees. If the paying eligible author is also an ASM member, additional discounts apply.

Who is eligible?
Authors or Co-Authors that are affiliated with a participating institution. ASM identifies eligible authors by their institution and institutional e-mail address during the submission process. OA publishing is guaranteed for authors of subscribing institution, even if the (global) S2O-Target is not met.

What license options are available?
Articles are published under a CC BY license only.
When do authors have to be affiliated with a participating member institution to be eligible for funding?
Authors must be affiliated with a participating member institution on the acceptance date.
What costs are covered by the agreement?
Under the S2O-Model no costs for APCs apply. However, ASM charges "Page Charges" for these articles. The Page Chage is discounted for subscribing institutions. Authors that are (individual) ASM members are granted an additional discount of 25%.
